Description
One of the most famously liveried and important Porsche 911s of all time, the Martini Racing Porsche 911 Carrera RSR prototype / chassis 911 360 0588, otherwise known as R6. Driven by Herbert Müller (Switzerland) and Gijs van Lennep (Netherlands) this Porsche 911 Carrera RSR won the 1973 Targa Florio, an open road endurance automobile race held in the mountains of Sicily near the island’s capital of Palermo. Founded in 1906, the Targa Florio was the oldest sports car racing event, part of the World Sportscar Championship between 1955 and 1973. The car started life in Group 4 spec, and after having been modified to Group 5 spec for later seasons, was restored to its original 1973 Targa Florio winning with help from Norbert Singer’s detailed race set-up sheets (such as individual gear ratios used, spring rates and even the type of brake pads fitted) in which it remains today. The car is shown here at the tenth annual Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace.
