Portrait Session Guidelines
With the proliferation of profile pictures online, including job applications, it is important to put your best foot forward when it comes to having your image taken. My portrait ethos is to start with a conversation to build a relationship and, when the photography begins, be slow and deliberate in order to take the best portraits possible. This time, care and attention extends to the post production and editing the results. Here are my session guidelines and rates:
PREPARATION FOR A HEADSHOT OR PORTRAIT
Take some time and consider what you are after, is it a portrait or is it a headshot? How would you like to be perceived; formal, informal, creative? What should you wear; what’s the industry norm and do you want to follow it or do something different? Whatever you choose, bring the appropriate clothing; it is advisable to bring with you 3-4 tops of different colours and necklines i.e. shirt, jacket, roll neck jumper, t-shirt etc. Avoid logos. In regards to hair; avoid a haircut the day before or on the day. If you are considering a haircut, have one a week before; this gives you time to learn how to style it. Or should you not like the haircut, to reschedule the shoot. Make up and skin; start with a natural look with little to no make up; you can always add more during the shoot if required. If you have oily skin, please book a morning (or early afternoon) session and consider a cleanser or treatment before the shoot. Additional guidelines of what to consider may be found here.
PORTRAIT SESSION TIME
Each session lasts 2 hours. The first 20- 30mins per session will be spent in conversation to get on the same wavelength so that the photography has a definite and confirmed direction. As the shoot progresses you will have the opportunity to view the images on the back of the camera so you can see them straight away and make immediate changes if necessary. After the shoot I email a link to a password protected gallery with the best images from the shoot; normally approximately 20 images. You choose your favourites (up to five), which will then be edited and fine tuned before the high res sent to you. Please be aware due to difference in editing, colour and black & white images each count as an image. Editing can take 2/3 working days.
