Shelby Mustang GT350 emblem. Starting in 1965, Ford sent an allotment of Mustangs 562 in total, based on the 1960 Ford Falcon platform, to Carroll Shelby. Shelby was an American automotive designer, racing driver, and entrepreneur and at his facility in Southern California he and his team gave the original “pony car” more power and performance including a power hike to 306bhp, a side-exiting exhaust system, uprated brakes and suspension, and a spare wheel mounted where the rear seat should go, making it eligible for sports car racing. Notoriously a special promotion, dreamed up between Ford, Carroll Shelby, and Hertz, the GT350H, was offered by the car rental firm. The cars were nicknamed “Pony cars”, due to the horse logo, and were characterized by long hoods, powerful V8 engines and long rears. The galloping horse logo is always facing left to distinguish it as a wild horse (ie a mustang), not a domesticated racing horse, which faces right. The original logo has red, white and blue stripes behind it, representing the American flag.
