Aston Martin DB6 speedometer, close up of the dashboard of a 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage Volante ‘Short Chassis’ Convertible. The Aston Martin DB6 Short Chassis Volante is the rarest of all DB model convertibles, with just 37 ever built in total. Production of the new DB6 started towards the end of 1965, the newly dubbed ‘Volante’ was commenced on the shorter chassis of the outgoing DB5. After the 37 Volante convertibles had been completed on the DB5 short-wheelbase chassis, the model adopted the longer DB6 chassis in October 1966. The Aston Martin DB6 Short Chassis Volante is often mentioned in Aston Martin texts and enthusiast guides as one of the most interesting and collectable of all Aston Martin DB series. In total, 1,575 DB6 saloons were made between 1965 and 1970, plus 178 of the long-wheelbase Volante convertibles.
